Happy New Year!

I know I haven't been very good at updating lately, but the holiday season has been kinda hectic. Lawson took her first plane ride to go visit Nana and Poppa in NC for Christmas. She did really good on the plane. The only time that she got fussy is when she was sleepy, but other than that the trip was smooth sailing. Too bad she's too young to start earning frequent flyer miles, because I think she's going to love to travel just like her mom.

And of course she put on the charm on the airplane. She was one of five babies on our flight, but she seemed to capture everyone's attention. She was so cute and charming that one lady asked if we would mind if she took her picture. She said that she was a landscape photographer and had never done portraits, but that Lawson was so beautiful that she just had to photograph her. After the flight she asked for my email address so she could send me the photos that she took. I must say, if this was her first time doing portrait photography, I'd love to see some of her landscape work; because I think these pictures of Lawson are amazing, I'm glad I agreed to let her photograph her.

My child did what?????

Sleep through the night! I mean the WHOLE night (8:30pm-6:30am), we had to wake her up this morning to get her ready to go to the babysitter. And a well rested baby will give you this.....

First UNSCHEDULED trip to the doctor

Well we had our first unscheduled trip to the doctor today. Lawson's been having this runny nose for about three or four weeks now. We thought it was just because she was teething. Yes you read that correctly, our 5 month old has two teeth coming in on the bottom. The first tooth broke the surface on her 4 month birthday, but back to the doctor visit. So we thought the runny nose was due to her teething, but it's gotten gradually worse and then she developed a cough with it. This past weekend Sean & I were battling our own sickness (you know typical winter stuff) and Lawson decided that she was going to stop being a good eater and sleeper. So we took off the the doctors office first thing this morning. Diagnosis......double ear infection. I had no idea that my baby was so sick. She never showed any signs that her ears were bothering her other than not really eating very well. So she was giving a round of good ole amoxicillin and we'll see how things go. Oh and by the way, she's up to 15 lbs. now. So as you can see she's a good eater and if that ever slows down it a sure sign to us that something is wrong.

In five years.....

Apparently this is what Lawson will look like. So mark you calendars and come back in 2014 and see if it's accurate!

What a difference a year makes!

We all know the saying, "What a difference a year makes", but there couldn't be a truer statement about this past year. Not only was I able to witness the historical event one year ago today of the election of our first Afro-American president, but I also experienced an event on this day that has forever changed my life. Exactly one year ago Sean & I created the most amazing individual that I have ever meet and for the rest of my life I get to say "yes, that's my daughter"! Lawson is absolutely, without a doubt, the best thing that I've ever done. For years I dreamed about her, what would she look like, what type of personality would she have, would she have my eyes, my mouth or my toes. Would she have dark hair or light, would she be athletic, would she be smart, would she make me want to pull my hair out. Everything that I ever dreamed up in my head is no comparison to the little individual person that I hold in my arms every night and rock to sleep. She is above and beyond my wildest dreams and more than I ever imagined. I can honestly say that I have known no greater love. I tell her every day that she is Mommy's morning sunshine and my starry night. To me she is perfection and I don't know how I've lived my life all this time without her.

Some questions have already been answered - yes she has my mouth, she has her uncle's toes and sometimes she makes me want to pull my hair out. I look forward everyday to getting the answers to the other questions and seeing where the journey of her life leads me.

Lawson,

You are the light of my life. You have brought me more joy than you could ever know. I hope I do right by you and you grow up proud to have me as your mother. No matter what life throws at us, always know that I love you with my complete being and you are truely my dream come true!

All my love,
Mommy
